A wave of LIV Golf players found themselves stranded in the Middle East as regional conflict escalated, all while preparing for the tour’s Asian stop. The group included Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Sam Horsfield, Anirban Lahiri, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Caleb Surratt, and Lee Westwood. They were in Dubai for practice when the United States and Israel began airstrikes on Iran, triggering retaliatory moves by Iran across targets in the region.

Westwood, Canter, and Horsfield compete under Majesticks Golf Club within the LIV circuit, while McKibbin and Surratt play for Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team.
In a text shared with Golf Channel, Surratt explained that he had traveled with his wife to Dubai for a few weeks to prepare. “And then the world just came undone on Saturday,” he said on Tuesday. “It was terrifying. But since then, it’s been OK. Sunday and Monday were bad with missile interceptions, but today was perfectly normal.” He added that Tuesday felt like ordinary life, with people simply going about their day.
Reports from Golf Channel indicated Surratt was trying to reach Oman to catch a flight to Hong Kong, and Flushing It Golf noted that other players were seeking similar routes to reach Hong Kong for the LIV Golf event. It remained unclear whether travel plans could be executed given airspace restrictions in the region.
