Instead, it was a seemingly minor detail: a transmission cooling hose that wasn't properly fastened. NASCAR Cup Series managing director Brad Moran explained that the hose, which is supposed to be airtight and secure, was found disconnected during inspection. Additionally, a driver cooling hose was also disconnected, affecting airflow—a critical factor on superspeedways. While these issues may appear insignificant to casual observers, NASCAR's strict rules mandate that all parts must be securely fastened to prevent them from falling off during the race.
Moran emphasized that every car undergoes thorough safety inspections, including checks on hoses, brakes, and airflow systems. He noted that if such issues are discovered during the season, they would result in disqualification. Alfredo's team will not be allowed to appeal the penalty, as the Duels are considered part of qualifying, and the rules treat this as an in-race penalty—similar to Noah Gragson's recent disqualification for using a banned tactic during qualifying.
As a result, BJ McLeod, whose No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet passed inspection, will take Alfredo's place on the grid. For McLeod, this marks his sixth Daytona 500 start and his first since 2023, after failing to qualify in both 2024 and 2025. Meanwhile, Alfredo will be heading home alongside Corey LaJoie, Chandler Smith, and JJ Yeley, all of whom also failed to make the cut.
